Designing a Building

Were only available in 2011, the Semester in Sustainable Design/Build is a continuous cooperation between Yestermorrow Design/Build School (Waitsfield, VT) and UMass Amherst’s Department of Architecture (Amherst, MA). Operating yearly from mid-August to mid-December, the Semester system occupies to 15 undergraduates and recent students through an architectural design procedure on significant completion of just one, superior, year-round construction. Pupils, while finishing a 15-credit course load, accept training in design, installation and detailing, and building overall performance while exploring team process, definitions of durability, and appropriate contexts. This full-immersion, credit-bearing semester in green building and design suits design, creating technology, engineering, and ecological design majors and it has wide application in liberal arts curricula.
