White Arkitekter is announced whilst the champions of a global design competition for a resort and cultural center in the town of Skellefteå, Sweden. Selected from over 55 entries from ten countries, the winning suggestion "Sida vid sida" (Side-by-side) requires a 19-story timber framework containing a concert hallway, museum, memorial, town collection and a four-star hotel. The brand new building could be the tallest wood-framed building when you look at the Nordic region.
Referencing the region’s rich history of timber structure, the 24, 940 square meter building will undoubtedly be constructed of a glue-laminated timber frame, enhanced with metal trusses and enclosed with a cup envelope, allowing the dwelling to be noticed from street. Areas have now been made for optimum versatility, featuring retractable wall space that increase or divide areas to provide a variety of functions.
“We desire to engage the larger public, not only arts enthusiasts, plus the building’s transparency provides passersby the opportunity to witness behind-the-scenes work, eg an exhibition or new stage-set coming together”, claims contribute Architect Robert Schmitz
The building's substantial level will offer views associated with the forested country and you will be topped with a green roofing delivering thermal insulation, sound insulation, biodiversity and rain-water consumption. City life will be brought into the building with an open ground-floor and numerous entrances connecting to future bicycle and pedestrian paths, giving Skellefteå residents a cultural hub that's easily accessible.
“We’re very proud to have the chance to produce a brand new home the artistic arts, theater and literary works. it is whenever these different disciplines satisfy that the miraculous happens”, says Oskar Norelius, contribute Architect, White Arkitekter.
