Innovative construction materials
The BRE Centre for Innovative building Materials (BRE CICM) conducts leading analysis, development and consultancy in neuro-scientific revolutionary and sustainable construction products and technologies.
The Centre is leading the way in investigating answers to the environmental effects of building and infrastructure. Building the usage of radical, low-carbon building products and support technologies for the construction industry, the Centre is helping in decreasing the UK’s eco impact - vital to mitigate the projected doubling of cement-based CO2 emissions by 2050.
Analysis tasks
The study interests and activities associated with Centre fall under these broad meanings:
ECO-SEE
The BRE Centre for Innovative Construction products is leading EU FP7 task ECO-SEE in building employing eco-materials and photocatalytic coatings to enhance the indoor air quality of contemporary carbon buildings. The consortium is made up of 17 partners including universities, research organizations, big businesses, and small & method companies.
BaleHaus: prefabricated straw bale construction
BaleHaus is a project exploring the construction of domiciles utilizing straw bale, a perfect material for environmentally friendly construction because green nature. A two-storey BaleHaus was built on campus using ‘ModCell’ – a system that utilises straw bale to form prefabricated panels. The BaleHaus ended up being officially established by Kevin McCloud in '09.
Building analysis park
The recently developed Building Research Park is an open-to-the-elements facility situated at Wroughton Airfield, revealing the website with the Science Museum, in which they store a huge range of items perhaps not at this time on screen. The park is host to your EPSRC-funded HIVE project, while offering the ability of full-scale study into building materials and methods making use of 16 re-configurable study buildings.
The HIVE
The HIVE is an experimental building financed by the EPSRC (EP/K040391/1 and EP/L005689/1), and by the University of Bath. It really is located in the Building analysis Park at Wroughton Airfield. The HIVE offers a framework around which studies can be built by RCUK scientists yet others.
HEMPSEC
The BRE Centre for Revolutionary building Materials is leading an EU CIP Eco-Innovation task HEMPSEC (332972) in a task aimed at the introduction to the EU marketplace of a prefabricated, pre-dried composite hemp-lime panel wall. This task is intended to help make a significant share towards the EU-wide carbon reduction targets. The consortium includes six lovers across three countries in europe.
